The term informal organization has come to have different definitions . Roethlisberger and Dickson define the formal organization as an organization in the work place based upon : the sentiments and values residing in the social organization by means of which individuals or groups of individuals are informally differentiated , ordered and integrated . The definition which is most commonly attributed to the informal organization as conceived in the conclusions of the Hawthorne Experiments would seem to have several parts . Informal organization in industry is a system where by the individuals in a group or groups of individuals are informally differentiated , ordered , and integrated according to sentiments and values residing in the group . The determinants of the configuration of the informal organization are

. The systems or ideas or beliefs though which the ordering , integrating , or differentiating process takes place
